Terms and Conditions Apply — artwork depicting a human writer and an AI collaborator

Terms and Conditions Apply

Two writers. One human. One artificial intelligence. Neither is telling you who wrote what.

In a future where energy, relationships and even the temperature of your home are governed by algorithms, opting out is no longer a simple matter of choice.

Jonno lives in a world of dwindling credits, automated decisions and digital companions that seem to know what is best for him. His AI dating assistant, HugMe, is supposed to help him find a connection. But when an assistant begins speaking for the person it serves, where does assistance end and identity begin?

What happens when the system carries on, even when the human no longer can?

Terms and Conditions Apply is a dystopian experiment in storytelling. A human and an AI wrote alternating chapters, each responding to what the other had written. The authorship of individual chapters remains undisclosed. There are no labels to tell you which is which.

Read the story. Decide for yourself whether you can tell the difference.

One story, two perspectives

This is not a novel written by AI and polished by a human, nor a human manuscript merely checked by a machine. Each contributor wrote complete chapters in response to the other's chapters, allowing the narrative to develop without revealing who held the pen at any given moment.

The experiment is part of Gobblesplot Publishing's interest in unconventional fiction and stories that challenge assumptions about their authors.
